Children and Youth Officer of the City of Chemnitz
Dina Norberger has been the new Children and Youth Officer of the City of Chemnitz since 1 March 2025. She was elected by the City Council on 29 January 2025.
Goals of her work:
- Strengthening children's rights in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- Networking committees and stakeholders to promote a family-friendly, healthy and diverse Chemnitz
- Establishing projects to strengthen child and family friendliness and providing information on funding opportunities
The Children and Youth Officer has also set itself the goal of further improving the quality of life for the younger generation and their families. In close co-operation with partners from politics, business and administration, the Children and Youth Commissioner develops ideas that take into account the needs of young people and their families and support them. As part of a committed network, she is committed to more social, cultural and creative co-operation.
The Children and Youth Commissioner is a permanent point of contact for children and young people if
- their rights and interests are violated or not sufficiently taken into account
- they have worries and major problems
- they are looking for help and cannot get anywhere on their own
- conflicts escalate and can no longer be resolved alone.
Parents and professionals can also contact Dina Norberger.
The main focus of her work is to represent the interests of children and young people vis-à-vis local politicians and local authorities. The core of this lobbying work is to convey the interests of children and young people to the relevant city council committees and to include the views of children and young people in urban planning projects.
The child and youth representative works as an advisory member of the youth welfare committee. She can attend meetings of the city council and committees with the right to speak on matters relating to her area of responsibility.
The children and young people's representative is also a member of the Local Alliance for Families in Chemnitz, the Federal Working Group for Children's Interests and the Working Group for Safe Routes to School.
