Twin cities

12 twin towns - near and far

Chemnitz is on friendly terms with twelve twin cities. While Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic) can be reached within 90 minutes by car, Taiyuan (People's Republic of China) and Akron (USA) are almost 8,000 kilometres away from Chemnitz. Regardless of the geographical location, large or small distances and different cultures, every partnership is a great enrichment for Chemnitz.

Project funding

The partnership between Chemnitz and the twelve partner cities is brought to life through projects organised by associations, initiatives, institutions and citizens. The City of Chemnitz supports this exchange with an active funding policy.

Funding is primarily provided for initial contacts and anniversaries with associations from the twin cities. Special consideration is given to projects that focus on youth, education and work with young people.
