An important task of the Office for Health and Prevention is to prevent communicable diseases in humans, recognise infections at an early stage and prevent them from spreading. Information sheets on various infectious diseases are available for download.

The Office for Health and Prevention fulfils environmental health protection tasks as a mandatory task of the municipality. This includes protection against health hazards and harmful environmental influences as well as the promotion of a healthy living environment.

The tasks of tuberculosis care are prevention, early detection and prevention of the spread of tuberculosis. The staff at the Office for Health and Prevention receive reports, advise tuberculosis patients and their relatives and identify contact persons for further check-ups.

The official medical service carries out medical and official medical examinations, assessments and statements in accordance with statutory regulations on the orders of authorities and for private individuals. The doctor at the Office for Health and Prevention is an independent expert.

Donate blood - and save lives. Around 15,000 blood donations are needed in Germany every day. The DRK blood donation services cover around 80 per cent of the demand for blood donations in Germany. The Office for Health and Prevention of the City of Chemnitz therefore strongly supports the request of the DRK Blood Donation Service Saxony and calls for blood donations.

In recent years, multi-resistant pathogens (MRE) have become an increasingly explosive issue in the media and in people's perception. These are bacteria that are resistant (insensitive) to a large number of antibiotics. These pathogens can lead to infections that are difficult or impossible to treat.
