Technology and research

Today, Chemnitz is once again a competitive technology centre. In terms of growth in the number of people employed in research and development, the city is at the forefront of Germany as a whole, with a patent density well above the national average. This is due, among other things, to 50 research and development facilities and an efficient university landscape.

As a subsidiary of the City of Chemnitz and Chemnitz University of Technology, Technologie Centrum Chemnitz GmbH (TCC) is committed to supporting young innovation- and technology-driven companies, particularly those from the city's scientific institutions. TCC GmbH offers suitable space for young companies at three locations, including office, laboratory and production space. The TCC thus offers an optimal mix of creative surroundings, networking opportunities and a professional working environment, combined with the best infrastructure, advisory support and flexible rental agreements that are geared towards company growth.

Around 80 young companies are currently based at the three locations. The industry focus is on sensor technology, (specialised) mechanical and plant engineering, lightweight construction and new materials.

In order to give these mostly high-tech start-ups the best possible start, TCC GmbH focusses on the consolidation and growth phase when supporting the young companies: Advice is provided on funding opportunities, targeted networking with other companies in the TCC or in the network for joint projects, help with the acquisition of venture capital, increasing visibility through active media work and support for the founders' personal development and business development through suitable coaching and mentoring programmes.

The flexible rental agreements are the basis for enabling companies to concentrate as fully as possible on building up their business - additional space can be rented at short notice and infrastructure that is no longer required can be returned. Modern seminar and conference rooms, which can be used free of charge by tenants, round off the offer.

Smart Systems Campus

The Smart Systems Campus in Chemnitz is a bundled network of microsystems technology expertise. Covering almost 4.5 hectares, the spacious technology park combines renowned scientific and technical institutions with entrepreneurial spirit, entrepreneurship and economic growth in a short, direct way.

A close interweaving of science, research and industry is not just a vision, but concrete content and a lived strategy. This is because the immediate neighbourhood includes Chemnitz University of Technology, the Fraunhofer Institutes and microsystems technology companies based in the industrial estate.

The start-up building provides around 2,500 square metres of floor space for around 15 start-ups. The 1,500 square metres of laboratory space will provide companies with user-specific equipment that can be adapted to their particular requirements.

The facilities for research and development on the Smart Systems Campus enable optimal collaboration with renowned companies and local research institutions. The reason for this is the shared use of facilities, equipment and training centres.
