The Chemnitz economic region is pooling its interests in the field of hydrogen. The Chemnitz Region Hydrogen Alliance was established for this purpose. This represents the common interest of the member companies in connecting the region to the hydrogen core network. In addition, the aim is to bring together the many stakeholders in the region and their respective hydrogen requirements and to form a common identity for the purpose of representing their interests. more

(16.05.2022) The city of Chemnitz is receiving funding of around 400,000 euros for the Chemnitz hydrogen region. This makes it one of the winners of the nationwide "HyLand" competition in the HyExperts category for the local authorities of the winning regions. For the Chemnitz region, the Environmental Agency worked together with HZwo e.V., eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co, eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG and the network partners Erzgebirgskreis, Vogtlandkreis, the districts of Mittelsachsen and Zwickau as well as the city of Zwickau, developed a funding application for the Chemnitz region, through which almost 400,000 euros will flow into the region.

60 million for hydrogen research in Chemnitz

Chemnitz will be part of the nationwide hydrogen centre. This was announced on 2 September 2021 by Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer and the Saxon state government.

The HZwo network, which is based at Chemnitz University of Technology, will receive funding totalling 60 million euros. Alongside Duisburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) and Pfeffenhausen (Bavaria), future research on the topic of hydrogen will thus also be based in Chemnitz.

Chemnitz is part of the Central German Metropolitan Region.
Alongside Berlin, the Central German Metropolitan Region is the only metropolitan region in the new federal states. As a now transnational association of 11 cities in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, it pools the diverse potential of its sub-regions.
