Town hall guide for children

The town hall guide for children takes the young people of Chemnitz on a 36-page journey of discovery through the town hall. Together with the town hall mouse and the lion, who represents the Lord Mayor in the animal world, children and young people learn what the town hall looks like from the inside, why so many of the figures in the pictures in the lobby are naked, the story behind the bell in the High Tower, how the carillon works and how the city council, its committees and the city administration work. It also presents opportunities for children to have a say in democratic processes. The booklet is supplemented by puzzles, colouring and error search pictures.
The fourth grade of the Annenschule primary school and the sixth grade of the Georgius Agricola Gymnasium in the 2024/2025 school year were significantly involved in the development of the guide. The teachers and their pupils provided the ideas for this guide and helped design some of the animals. The overall design was created by illustrator David Füleki from Chemnitz, who came out on top against two competitors in a creative competition. The project was led by Katrin Günther, Coordinator for Youth Participation at the City of Chemnitz.
The town hall guide for children is published in a print run of 7,500 copies and is available to take away from the town hall.
