Masterplan for the Chemnitz/Southwest Saxony Region - Regional Convention

The masterplan for the Chemnitz/Southwest Saxony region is a joint strategic framework for the districts of Zwickau, Central Saxony, the Erzgebirgskreis, Vogtlandkreis and the city of Chemnitz to actively shape the far-reaching structural change in the region.

The aim of the masterplan is to secure industrial value creation and develop new, innovative value creation potential. It bundles future strategies for a self-confident and successful transformation of the region.

The original idea behind the convention, which was launched in 2009, was to jointly present the region, which is a living and working environment for almost 1.6 million people. The aim is to bundle strengths, utilise potential and formulate common goals vis-à-vis the federal and state governments. One of the main objectives is to keep people in the region in the long term or to attract them to the region.

In the past, the committee has campaigned for better long-distance railway connections in the region, the establishment of teacher training and for Chemnitz to apply for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 together with the cultural region.
