Federal election 2025

The election to the 21st German Bundestag will take place on Sunday, 23 February 2025.
European and local elections 2024
Local elections are held every five years. The State Ministry of the Interior has set 9 June 2024 as the date for the 2024 municipal elections.
The local elections in the independent city of Chemnitz include
- the election to Chemnitz City Council and
- the eight local council elections for the localities of Einsiedel, Euba, Grüna, Klaffenbach, Kleinolbersdorf-Altenhain, Mittelbach, Röhrsdorf and Wittgensdorf.
Members of the European Parliament were elected in the Federal Republic of Germany on 9 June 2024.
The Federal Republic of Germany has 96 Members of the European Parliament. They are elected by direct universal suffrage, free, equal and secret ballot for five years.
In Chemnitz, the European elections are organisationally linked to the local elections taking place on the same election day.

At its meeting on 17 June 2024, the City Election Committee for the European and local elections of the City of Chemnitz determined the final results of the European, city council and local council elections. more
Mayoral election 2020
The election of the Lord Mayor of Chemnitz for the term of office 2020 to 2027 took place on 20 September 2020, the 2nd ballot on 11 October 2020.
At its meeting on 15 October 2020, the City Election Committee determined the final result of the 2nd ballot of the Lord Mayor election on 11 October 2020. With 31750 votes, the candidate Schulze, Peter Sven, received the most votes and was thus elected as the new Lord Mayor of the City of Chemnitz.
