City Council
The City Council is the main body of the city and the political representation of the citizens of Chemnitz. The City Council is made up of 60 elected volunteers from Chemnitz and the Lord Mayor as Chairman of the City Council.

The residents' assemblies are organised according to assembly areas.
The city of Chemnitz is divided into eight assembly areas. These are based on the city's territorial organisation and a comparable number of inhabitants. Four residents' assemblies are held each year.
