Intercultural weeks
12 September to 3 October 2026
Call for participation
The Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz kicked off on 12 September under the motto "Living diversity - shaping the future" - a two-week series of events that has been setting an example for peaceful and positive coexistence in our city every year since 1991. The Intercultural Weeks have been organised nationwide since the 1970s.
The series of events will be opened on 12 September at 12 noon with a colourful and intercultural programme, the Festival of Cultures, on the market square.
In addition to informal contributions, artistic and sporting activities as well as culinary and creative offerings are also on the programme.
Events can be registered until 15 May 2026
The Intercultural Weeks thrive on the participation of many. The organisers - led by the City of Chemnitz Migration Officer in close cooperation with the Migration Advisory Board, the association AGIUA e. V. Migrationssozial- und Jugendarbeit and the women's centre Lila Villa in the association akCente e. V. - are jointly calling on people to take part, whether with their own stand at the opening market and/or with their own offers during the series of events, which runs until 3 October. Chemnitz residents who would like to support the organisers as volunteers or with donations are also welcome to get in touch.
Those involved are free to decide what and in what form they would like to offer during the two weeks. Theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and discussions with authors, panel discussions, training courses, lectures, workshops and information events on various topics as well as interfaith exchanges and much more are intended to spark interest in people and encounters. The diversity of the programme is intended to appeal to everyone in Chemnitz and encourage them to get involved.
