Call for participation
Under the motto “Embracing diversity – shaping the future”, the Intercultural Weeks kicked off in Chemnitz on 12 September – a series of events that has been promoting peaceful and harmonious coexistence in our city every year since 1991. Intercultural Weeks have been taking place across Germany since the 1970s.
The series of events opens on 12 September at 12 noon with a colourful and intercultural programme, the Festival of Cultures, on the market square.
Over the following three weeks, events such as theatre performances, film screenings, dance classes and concerts, country evenings, sports events, readings and author talks, panel discussions, training sessions, lectures, workshops and information events on various topics, as well as interfaith dialogue, are designed to spark an interest in people and encounters. The diversity of the programme is intended to appeal to all residents of Chemnitz and encourage them to get involved.
The Intercultural Weeks thrive on the participation of many. The organisers – led by the City of Chemnitz’s Migration Officer in close cooperation with the Migration Advisory Board, the association AGIUA e. V. Migration, Social and Youth Work and the Lila Villa Women’s Centre within the akCente e. V. association – organise the Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz with the support of many other initiatives, whether with their own stall at the market for the opening and/or with their own activities during the series of events running until 3October.
Residents of Chemnitz are also welcome to get in touch if they wish to support the organisers as volunteers or through donations. Applications for the stage programme can be submitted until 19 August:

Background
In Chemnitz, the Intercultural Weeks are prepared and implemented by the Migration Officer in close cooperation with the Migration Advisory Board, the Social Welfare Office, the AGIUA e. V. Migration Social and Youth Work Association, the Lila Villa Women's Centre in the akCente e. V. association and with the support of numerous Chemnitz associations and initiatives.
The nationwide Intercultural Weeks are widely anchored with 5,000 events at more than 500 locations throughout Germany.
