At the end of May, the city of Chemnitz successfully completed the feasibility study for the planned sports and culture campus in the city centre. A compact short brochure summarises the key findings and results of the study and is now available for public download.

The aim of the study was to examine the basic feasibility in terms of building volume, noise protection and development as well as to assess the economic viability of such a hall at the city centre location. The utilisation content to be examined essentially related to the consideration of basketball and event requirements, including additional cultural-related uses. It was also possible to adequately incorporate the historically characterised Antonplatz.

The fund for revitalising the city centre contains 80,000 euros per year to support the projects described. Anyone who would like to contribute ideas or financial support to the city centre fund can contact the staff unit at the town hall. Further discussions are also planned with tenants and owners on the possible use of vacant retail space.

The employees of the "Economy and Digitalisation" staff unit have initially carried out an analysis of the current situation and are now starting to develop a strategy paper, which is to be drafted for the years 2022 to 2025 with the involvement of various stakeholders.

Important questions are: What significance will the city centre have for us in the coming years and what fields of action can be derived from this? How can we succeed in implementing an experience-based city centre? And how can we create synergies with the Capital of Culture 2025?
