The Fête de la Musique welcomed summer back to the city on 21 June - for the 11th time! The music festival invited everyone in Chemnitz to take part, listen and enjoy. What's more, this year it all took place on a Saturday - giving us twice the reason to make Fête 2025 even bigger and with even more music!

On 21 June, a musical programme with musicians from various genres and cultural backgrounds began on the stages in the city centre just in time for the end of the day and the start of the weekend. The entire programme was published in advance on our website so that you knew in good time where and when your favourite artists would be performing. In between, spread throughout the entire area of Chemnitz city centre, our street music venues completed the musical programme - there was hardly a place at the Fête de la Musique without music, dance or performance.

In the spirit of its inventor Jack Lang, the Fête did not charge admission. Nevertheless, you should take your wallet with you for drinks and food at our small food mile. Caterers from the city presented themselves there and made sure that nobody had to go hungry.

Background

The former French Minister of Culture Jack Lang came up with the idea, which was first realised in France in 1981 and has since been imitated worldwide. The music festival is now held in more than 540 cities, with over 50 in Germany.

There are virtually no rules for the Fête de la Musique: The only important thing is that the event takes place free of charge in a public place - genre, type of performance or country of origin of the musicians are irrelevant.
