An outstanding year is coming to an end for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and 38 municipalities in the region. Under the motto "C the Unseen", countless committed stakeholders have put together a unique programme. Many people from near and far accepted the invitation to discover Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region.
On the weekend of 29 and 30 November, we will celebrate the finale of the Capital of Culture year and ring in the Advent season at the same time. On 5 December, the two European Capitals of Culture 2025, Chemnitz and Nova Gorica/Gorizia, will hand over the symbolic baton to Oulu 2026 in Finland and Trenčin 2026 in Slovakia.

Around the final weekend, numerous events organised by our project partners and partner municipalities in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region invite you to discover them. Whether exciting events and exhibitions in the museums, festive atmosphere at the Christmas markets or the lively nightlife: There is something to experience everywhere.
Maker Advent Christmas workshop
Sat, 29 Nov, 12-6pm in the Chemnitz town hall
A selection of offers from the Maker Advent brochure in one day. Everything from handicrafts to high-tech is on offer and, above all, everything you can make yourself. From Erzgebirge wood art to 3D printing, from ceramics to laser cutting: Chemnitz City Hall will be the place for everyone who wants to try out and experience future technologies.

European Mountain Parade
Sat, 29.11., from 2 pm from the theatre square
The Christmas season in Chemnitz traditionally begins with the Great Mountain Parade. Around 1000 traditional costume wearers, mountain musicians and mountain singers make up the impressive procession through the city centre. Mountain brothers and sisters from Thuringia, Brandenburg and the Czech Republic will also be travelling to the end of the Capital of Culture year. The parade starts at Theaterplatz and leads via Richard-Tauber-Straße, Straße der Nationen and Brückenstraße back to the starting point.
Christmas carol singing
Sat, 29.11., from 5 pm on the theatre square
The Christmas carol singing on the theatre square in front of the beautiful backdrop of the opera house has already been a great success in previous years and has attracted visitors from near and far. At the end of the Capital of Culture year, everyone is cordially invited to sing well-known Christmas carols together with the choirs of Chemnitz Theatre. The brass players of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment.
Closing time!
Sat, 29 November, from 8 pm on Brückenstraße
In the evening, we will come together on the stage on Brückenstraße to look back on the Capital of Culture year. This is also the time to say thank you for a great Chemnitz 2025. Together we will celebrate the finale with an artistic contribution from Oulu, the next European Capital of Culture 2026, and take the great commitment, the creative energy and the many new impulses with us into the future.
From 9 pm, DJs from the United Club Convention will take over and Brückenstraße will become a dance floor.
Light art: James Turrell, Beyond Horizons 2025
Sat + Sun, 29 + 30 November, Oelsnitz/Erzgeb.
In Oelsnitz/Erzgeb., the full-field light installation "Beyond Horizons 2025" will open from 29 November on the site of the former Karl-Liebknecht mine in a former industrial hall that has been renovated for the artwork. The light sculpture by world-renowned American artist James Turrell completes the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail and is also a glowing finale to the Capital of Culture year. Tickets for the light artwork by James Turrell will soon be available online via the website of the Museum Kohlewelt.

Changed routing
In order to ensure that the event can be set up smoothly, Brückenstraße will be closed to traffic from 03:00 on 28 November.
Bus routes 51, 62, 72, 79 and the night routes N13 and N17 will be diverted accordingly. The diversion will be in place for the entire weekend and will be lifted again on 1 December at 03:00.
For the European Mountain Parade on 29 November between 13:00 and 16:30, additional restrictions apply for tram lines 3 and 4 as well as for all Citybahn lines.
More frequent services
To ensure that Chemnitz residents and their guests can get to and from the events in comfort, the main transport lines will run every 10 minutes from 13:00 to 22:45.
Between 22:45 and 00:15, the main transport lines run every 30 minutes.
From 00:45, the regular night service begins.
The corresponding timetables for the lines are only available digitally. They are also available at cvag.de/kulturhauptstadt. Alternatively, there is a QR code at each stop timetable, which takes you directly to the departures in real time.

- RB 30: one additional late connection each to Freiberg and Zwickau at 00:30 from Chemnitz main station
Additional journeys on Saturday, 29 November 2025 and Sunday, 30 November 2025
- PlusBus 207 & 210: additional and reinforced journeys between Chemnitz - Marienberg - Olbernhau (line 207) and between Chemnitz and Annaberg-Buchholz (line 210) ensure an hourly frequency
- PlusBus 526: there is an hourly service between Chemnitz and Limbach-Oberfrohna from 10:00 to 20:00
- C11: additional journeys between Chemnitz and Stollberg as part of the Advent traffic(To the timetable.)
- C14: additional journeys on Saturday afternoons and all day on Sundays between Chemnitz Technopark and Thalheim as part of Advent services (To thetimetable.)
- RB 81: increased frequency to an hourly service between Chemnitz and Olbernhau
- RE 3: additional traction reinforcements

Public car parks and multi-storey or underground car parks can be used to get to both events. An overview can be found at www.chemnitz.de/parken and www.chemnitz.de/verkehr.

The underground car park under the Terminal 3 building complex is not accessible during the full closure of Brückenstraße. The underground car park under Theaterplatz, the underground car park under Galerie Roter Turm and the Rathauspassagen multi-storey car park can be accessed as usual.
Stopping restrictions
From Tuesday, 25 November, stopping restrictions will be put in place on Brückenstraße to secure the set-up work for the final event.
On Saturday 29 November, stopping restrictions will also be in place along the route of the Bergparade. The route runs via Theaterplatz - Richard-Tauber-Straße - Straße der Nationen - Brückenstraße - Brückenstraße/Mühlenstraße junction - turning in the Brückenstraße stump and back to Theaterplatz.
It is imperative that the stopping restrictions are adhered to in order to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Closures
Due to the stage construction and the final event, the following closures will take place on the following days:
- From Tuesday, 25 November, 6 a.m. to Thursday, 27 November, 6 p.m. and
from Monday, 1 December, 6 a.m. to Tuesday, 2 December, 6 a.m:
Closure of the right-hand lane of Brückenstraße from the direction of Straße der Nationen in the direction of Theaterstraße (the left-hand lane in this direction will remain open to traffic) - From Thursday, 27 November, 6 pm to Monday, 1 December, 6 am:
Complete closure of Brückenstraße between Straße der Nationen and Theaterstraße - On Saturday, 29 November, from approx. 1 pm to approx. 4 pm, the route of the Bergparade will be fully closed.
- On Saturday, 29 November, Richard-Tauber-Straße and Karl-Liebknecht-Straße between Richard-Tauber-Straße and Georgstraße will also be set up as one-way streets for the arrival and departure of the miners. Residents are requested to use the access road via Mühlenstraße.
Bypass options
It is possible to bypass the traffic closure for the European Mining Parade via Bahnhofstraße - Theaterstraße - Hartmannstraße - Bergstraße - Schloßteichstraße - Müllerstraße - August-Bebel-Straße - Dresdner Straße - Waisenstraße.
The traffic closure for the closing event can be bypassed via Straße der Nationen - Georgstraße - Mühlenstraße - Theaterstraße - Bahnhofstraße - Brückenstraße.
