Chemnitz City Council adopted the new city centre framework plan at its meeting today. The plan forms the basis for the actions of the City of Chemnitz and its subsidiaries as well as for urban development planning and investments in the city centre. This creates a technical basis for action for urban development in the coming years.
The framework plan follows on from the resolution on the "City Centre 2005" framework plan and the 2015 expert opinion process and continues their content. In view of current changes, particularly in the retail sector, mobility and climate adaptation, the city of Chemnitz is placing new emphasis on green and open spaces, building areas, mobility and new utilisation concepts, among other things. The framework plan builds on the measures successfully implemented by the business division, such as the establishment of new catering businesses and the strengthening of established festivals. The aim is to further develop the city centre as an attractive, diversely used and climate-adapted urban space. There were several rounds of participation in the development of the framework plan, in which city centre stakeholders and citizens were able to contribute their ideas.
Specifically, the framework plan includes the redesign of Seeberplatz with a direct connection to the Chemnitz River in order to create new recreational and meeting areas by the water. Rosenhof is also to be strengthened as a residential and business location and upgraded with barrier-free access and new green spaces. In addition, the Wall is to be improved in terms of design as a green city ring and better linked to the neighbouring districts on foot.
The measures named in the framework plan will be gradually incorporated into future budget and financial planning. They will be implemented taking into account the available budget and funding.
