Johannes Kepler Grammar School is once again the most active cycling team and the strongest grammar school in Chemnitz. The Kepler team once again increased their distance by a good 6,000 kilometres and thus defended their 1st place. For the first time, the "most bike-active school" category was divided into four sub-categories in order to liven up the competition and make the results more comparable and fairer. As a result, Ebersdorf primary school, the Chemnitz school model and the Terra Nova Campus also won gold in their school categories.
There was a change on the podium for the most bicycle-active daycare centre: The Wiesenstraße daycare centre now took 1st place instead of 2nd place last year. Stefanie Zelt, who was crowned the most active cyclist, is also back in 1st place. Team IMK-ERZ is also back in 1st place in the category "The team with the most active cyclists". New in first place is Sten Brückner, who is Chemnitz's most active CITY CYCLIST 2025 with 2,860.2 kilometres.
In addition, the most bicycle-active company was honoured for the first time this year. VW Motorenfertigung Chemnitz can look forward to a guided tour of the diamond plant in Hartmannsdorf.
CITY CYCLING highlights 2025
In addition to the 2nd rally Chemnitz and the CITY CYCLING final tour, in each of which around 150 Chemnitz residents and cycling enthusiasts from the Capital of Culture region took part, the city partnership with the state capital Düsseldorf was revitalised during the campaign period and in the run-up to it. In addition to the joint use of the CITY CYCLING blogs, various delegations repeatedly visited the European Capital of Culture 2025.
The Lauf-KulTour e. V. association from Chemnitz made a stop in Düsseldorf and collected kilometres as a duathlon relay - on foot and by bike - to raise awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
In a small town-twinning comparison, the Chemnitz team narrowly beat our friends from Düsseldorf: On average, the Chemnitz CITY CYCLERS covered 195.15 kilometres per person during the campaign period. The Düsseldorfers followed the Chemnitzers closely with 191.91 kilometres per person.
Kilometres to be logged until 28 September 2025
Kilometres can still be added to the mileage log via app or online until 28 September 2025.

moreThat was CITY CYCLING 2024
CITY CYCLING took place in Chemnitz from 2 to 22 September 2024. This year, more Chemnitz residents took part in the Climate Alliance's international cycling campaign than ever before. 3,152 active cyclists pedalled hard and cycled 573,416 kilometres in 220 teams. This corresponds to aCO2 avoidance of approx. 95 tonnes compared to using a car.
At the second #chemnitzdrehtamtradtour (CITY CYCLING tour), which took place at the beginning of the campaign this year, 200 cyclists came together on 2 September 2024 and set a visible sign for individual health promotion, cycling promotion and climate protection in Chemnitz. For the first time, a rally ride through Chemnitz was held at the end of CITY CYCLING and European Mobility Week on 22 September 2024, in which almost 100 Chemnitz residents took part.
"Even if not all records from 2023 were broken this year, all participants can be proud of the result. The short week with persistently bad weather slowed us down, but did not stop us from using the bicycle as a sustainable means of mobility. In view of the city's climate protection goals, it is important that the environmental network, consisting of public transport, walking and cycling, is further strengthened," said the head of the City of Chemnitz's environmental department, Ms Carina Kühnel.
