Cycling in everyday life

Premium cycle route Chemnitz Küchwald - Wüstenbrand
Bridge construction for premium cycle path on Kalkstraße begins
Bridge construction on Kalkstraße underway
With the acquisition of the former Küchwald-Wüstenbrand railway line in October 2018, planning for its subsequent use as a cycle path was accelerated. The project will connect the south-west, north and ring routes of the city of Chemnitz's cycle network to the new cycle path. This means that cycle traffic can be routed from Hohenstein-Ernstthal to Chemnitz independently of the public transport network - one of the criteria for a premium cycle path. The cycle path creates a safe and attractive centre-west connection for cyclists.
The impressive bridge over Kalkstraße is currently under construction. Other sections, such as the one between the former Altendorf goods station and Kalkstraße, are already in operation.

Information flyer about cycling

The City of Chemnitz regularly publishes information flyers on the subject of cycling. These are available to take away free of charge from the information desks in the town halls.
Chemnitz city bike
The "Chemnitz city bike" project offers a total of 150 rental bikes at nine rental stations, which can be used by tourists and locals alike to explore the city.
The principle is simple: present your identity document, pay a hire fee of 2.50 euros per day and bike and off you go.
Cycling concept
In order to systematically promote cycling, the city council adopted the cycling concept in February 2013. Stakeholders from associations, clubs and interest groups, local politicians and the city administration were involved in the development of the concept.
