Chemnitz River
At the railway viaduct
The railway viaduct should have been demolished, but the local community successfully campaigned to preserve it. Today, it has been thoroughly renovated and is an industrial monument. The city has redesigned the area under the viaduct as an entrance to the city park.
Former Altchemnitz river baths
A place where not only sunbathers get their money's worth is the area at the former Altchemnitz river baths. The city has ecologically upgraded the Chemnitz and created new facilities for those seeking recreation on both sides of the river.
North Park
The city of Chemnitz has redesigned the section of the Chemnitz at Hauboldstraße in a natural way: Sediments were used to create a small beach, complemented by sun loungers, tables and large natural stones. This created a piece of beach feeling on the river in the centre of the city.
Heligoland
As a counterpart to the footbridge on Eckstraße/Hauboldstraße, the city of Chemnitz has created an access to the water with large stones in the embankment opposite in the area of the former Helgoland garden plot.
