Have a look! The weekend of the intervention areas on 23/24 August 2025

The weekend of the intervention areas on 23/24 August 2025

The European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 - that's over 1,000 events. Chemnitz 2025 is also a huge urban development project with its intervention areas. Spread across the entire city, the city of Chemnitz has tidied up overgrown wasteland, rediscovered long-forgotten corners and fulfilled wishes large and small.

The intervention areas are ready - and waiting to be discovered!

We will celebrate this with the people of Chemnitz for a weekend on 23 and 24 August and show what you can do here in the future: The local players will be offering guided tours, going on a hike, playing a concert or inviting children to an activity day - we look forward to seeing you!

Reforestation of failed industry - a site-specific art installation

The rest area at the Fischwegbrücke bridge in Chemnitz is transformed into a poetic meeting place between nature, memory and transformation. The installation "Reforestation of Failed Industry" addresses the cycle of the rise and fall of industrial landscapes and poses the question of how nature and human creativity can reclaim lost spaces. Over thirty long silk panels - predominantly in shades of white and grey, interspersed with individual bright red, blue, green and yellow accents - hang from the arch of the disused bridge. Textures of tree bark, leaves and animal tracks are visible on them as fine prints.

As dusk falls, an atmospheric interplay of light, laser, projections and sound unfolds. A synthesiser wrapped in silk complements the installation with a live soundscape, while fine mist and projections transform the space into an immersive, almost dreamlike sphere.
