Das Bild zeigt den Abschnitt der Brückenstraße vor dem Karl-Marx-Monument im Dunkeln. Mehrere tausend Menschen stehen dicht gedrängt vor der Bühne, die rund um das Denkmal errichtet ist, und bis zur Straße der Nationen. Die Bühne besteht aus einem transparenten Dach, das halbmondförmig um den Kopf von Karl Marx gespannt ist, und einer Treppe, die vom Denkmal nach unten führen. Zahlreiche Scheinwerfer neben der Bühne senden gelbe Lichtstrahlen in den Himmel. An die Fassade des Hauses hinter der Bühne – der „Parteifalte“ – ist das Motto der Kulturhauptstadt, „C the Unseen“, projiziert. Auf blauem Untergrund sind außerdem die Sterne der Europaflagge zu erkennen.
