Social assistance
Social assistance is granted as a benefit for people in need who are unable to work. Anyone who is unable to work and cannot support themselves either from their own resources or with the help of others has a legal entitlement.
moreSocial services for adults
The social service for adults informs, advises and supports ageing citizens of the city of Chemnitz in particular, as well as relatives and service providers who specialise in the needs of senior citizens. The services are free of charge, independent and personalised.
moreParental allowance
The state supports fathers and mothers and their young families with parental allowance. Parents who primarily want to look after their child themselves after the birth and are therefore not or not fully employed are entitled to it.
moreEducation package
Benefits of the education and participation package include excursions with school/daycare centres, membership fees for cultural and sporting activities and subsidies for lunch in schools and kindergartens.
moreHousing support
The City of Chemnitz supports those seeking help with housing entitlement certificates, housing placement and financially with housing benefit. It is also active in the area of homeless assistance.
moreDebt counselling
The Social Welfare Office's debt counselling service provides free advice and support on issues such as rent and energy debts, checking the legality of claims and personal crises.
moreSeverely disabled status
Upon application, it is determined whether a disability exists within the meaning of the Severely Disabled Persons Act and the degree of this disability (GdB). You can also apply to the City of Chemnitz for a state allowance for the blind.
moreChemnitz Pass
The City of Chemnitz issues a Chemnitz Pass to residents with low or no income. This entitles the holder to reduced prices for certain public and private services.
moreSocial security and pension
The Insurance Office of the City of Chemnitz offers free assistance to all insured persons who live in Chemnitz, are staying here or have their place of employment or work in Chemnitz.
moreCompensation for professional disadvantages
The Occupational Rehabilitation Act (BerRehaG) offers people who were victims of political persecution in the former GDR a way to come to terms with their past, apply for rehabilitation and receive compensation.
morePromotion of independent youth welfare, social and socio-medical services

Social and socio-medical services as well as services provided by independent youth welfare organisations can be financially supported if certain conditions are met in accordance with the City of Chemnitz guidelines for the promotion of independent youth welfare, social and socio-medical services "Fachförderrichtlinie Jugend, Soziales, Gesundheit - FRL-JSG".
