Ten reasons in favour of Chemnitz as a location

1. we
Chemnitz is the centre of a successful industrial region rich in tradition. The backbone of our success is the passion, ideas and inventive spirit of those who live and work here.
WE - these are world-class engineers and inventors: machines, vehicles, microelectronics, sensors, intelligent textiles, new materials, software for automated driving - around nine billion euros of added value are supported by high-quality products, intelligent services and a large pinch of Saxon serenity.

2. inventiveness and entrepreneurship
Our 18,500 industrial and craft businesses are the backbone of our economy. They get down to work, go their own way, dare to try new things and have an inventive spirit.
This recipe makes the city and its people successful: for example, the thermos flask, the first mild detergent, the Audi rings or stitch-bonding technology were invented in Chemnitz. Today, excellent machines and production facilities are built here, as are microsystems. Chemnitz is the city of makers.

3. modern production and IT location

At the end of the 19th century, Chemnitz was nicknamed the "Saxon Manchester". The comparison with the English industrial metropolis was suggested by the large number of chimneys in the factories and foundries and the associated smoke and pollution. Today, the city is a modern industrial city with a focus on the automotive and supplier industry, mechanical and plant engineering and information technology. The predominantly medium-sized structure of the companies and the good qualifications of the skilled labour in the region ensure the necessary flexibility to be able to react quickly to market changes - this is one of the foundations of the future viability of Chemnitz as a business location.
4. successful start-up scene
New ideas emerge every day in our start-up scene and start-up networks, and these young companies find the best opportunities here: A start-up centre with offices, laboratories and space has been created close to the Technical University to promote excellent research and spin-offs on site. Our innovative university has already spawned hundreds of start-ups in which young professionals can find interesting jobs.

5. education at the highest level

Chemnitz University of Technology is a cosmopolitan university with strong regional, national and international networks. It is home to around 10,000 students from around 100 countries. In terms of the proportion of foreign students, Chemnitz University of Technology is one of the top state universities in Germany. Grammar schools and vocational school centres in various disciplines complete our portfolio.
6. innovation through research
Saxony's inventive spirit has never been content to merely improve on the achievements of a great past and adapt them to current requirements, but has always produced innovations and products for the future. In addition to successfully operating local companies, 50 research and development institutions, including two Fraunhofer Institutes, ensure this. The most exciting topics currently include the development of materials and intelligent systems, resource-efficient production and lightweight construction as well as sensor technology and textile research. Chemnitz provides impetus for these promising fields of research.
This innovative environment secures the region's need for specialists and managers in the long term.

7 Attractive location and modern infrastructure

Chemnitz is an attractive major city in the heart of Europe - in the direct neighbourhood of its EU partners, the Czech Republic and Poland. Investors appreciate the well-developed infrastructure and the fast connections from Chemnitz to the European metropolitan regions. Two international airports can be reached by car in an hour, four more in around two hours. With DHL's European air hub in Leipzig, companies in the region have a wide range of express and logistics options close by.
The Chemnitz model connects supra-regional rail transport and Chemnitz city centre with public transport in the region in an innovative way. And the digital infrastructure is also continuing to grow: well over three quarters of Chemnitz residents and companies already have high-speed internet access. In the coming years, the last "white spots" are set to disappear with the nationwide expansion of the fibre optic network.
8 Plenty of room for new ideas
The Smart Systems Campus and the Technology Campus offer 30 hectares of space for new ideas. The connection to the nearby university and the city centre promotes the networking of science and business. But Chemnitz also offers attractive commercial space in the city centre and on the outskirts at attractive prices.

9. it's a good place to live

Chemnitz is a great place to live and work: Whether renovated Art Nouveau buildings or suburban locations such as Rabenstein - favourable rents and sufficient living space offer plenty of room to feel good. Especially for families. The quality of life is also good: There are 200 m² of green space for every inhabitant.
Sports enthusiasts will be happy in the swimming pools, the ice rink, on the golf course and tennis court or in the more than 200 sports clubs. Art, theatre and music lovers will be inspired by the diverse cultural scene. And with the Erzgebirge UNESCO World Heritage Site, characterised by its unique mining tradition, a hiking and winter sports Eldorado is right on the doorstep.
10 We are the European Capital of Culture 2025
Chemnitz is the European Capital of Culture 2025! Under the motto "C the unseen", we will be a good host for Europe in 2025 with a diverse programme and talk to Europe about how we want to tackle the common, important issues of our time. With around 150 projects and more than 1,000 events, people from Chemnitz, the Ore Mountains, Central Saxony and the Zwickau region are putting themselves and their region on the cultural and tourist map.
Along the way, over 90 million euros have been invested in the 2025 programme as well as in urban development, infrastructure and tourism to create added value for Chemnitz and the entire cultural region.
