Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation
"Doing something good together"

Established in 2002, the "Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation is the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
This revitalised a good idea dating back to 1855.
The local youth welfare projects supported primarily help children and young people in Chemnitz, most of whom are on the dark side of life and whose life plans are sometimes characterised by a lack of courage and prospects.

The aim of these projects is to promote social and communicative skills, to increase self-esteem and to help young people to help themselves, i.e. the young people help to shape things and contribute their interests, ideas and skills.
The foundation acts according to the following principles:
- Support for child and youth welfare takes the form of financial start-up funding for new innovative projects run by independent and municipal youth welfare organisations, as well as for individual offers of help and support for children and young people in Chemnitz.
- The funded projects should be exemplary and reflect creativity, be particularly orientated towards the needs of young people and be networked and cooperative.
- Ongoing projects can be funded if new aspects clearly emerge in terms of content and a distinction is made between regular and project funding.
Only regional projects are eligible for funding.
Johanneum Academy project

Since 2009, the Johanneum Academy has established itself as a successful brand in its own right.
The ten Johanneum Academy modules that have now been created - in which over 250 girls and boys have been able to participate in the annual project weeks - reflect the innovative and far-sighted thinking of the Board of Trustees and the Board of the Children and Youth Foundation in 2009.
The wide-ranging content of the modules, for example on topics such as
- science and technology,
- nature and the environment,
- medicine and health,
- art and much more,
were and are success factors for the successful introduction of adolescents to various educational programmes.
Children, who are not always on the sunny side of life, can try things out, develop social skills and thus increase their self-esteem.
The staff at the Chemnitz children's, youth and family support centre play a significant role in the success of the Johanneum Academy through their accompanying educational work.
