Barbarossastrasse will be fully closed from 21 July

Construction work in three sections due to district heating expansion

From Monday, 21 July, a large section of Barbarossastrasse in the Kaßberg district will be fully closed. The district heating network will be expanded by eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co KG and inetz until the end of November 2025. This will affect the areas from Limbacher Straße to Walter-Oertel-Straße and from Agricolastraße to Heinrich-Beck-Straße.

Three companies are working simultaneously in sections to ensure that the work is completed by the end of the year.

The construction sections are:

  • Uhlichstraße to Henriettenstraße including the Henriettenstraße intersection and Henriettenstraße to Walter-Oertel-Straße including the Walter-Oertel-Straße intersection
  • Limbacher Straße to Leonhardtstraße and Leonhardtstraße to Uhlichstraße
  • Heinrich-Beck-Straße incl. the intersection of Heinrich-Beck-Straße to Eulitzstraße and Eulitzstraße to Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz incl. the intersection of Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz/Agricolastraße

Intersections on Barbarossastrasse that will be open to traffic during the construction period are Weststrasse, Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz/Rudolf-Breitscheid-Strasse and Ahornstrasse.

Traffic will be diverted via Limbacher Straße - Franz-Mehring-Straße - Weststraße or Ulmenstraße - Zwickauer Straße. A speed limit of 30 km/h applies throughout the diversion route. One-sided stopping bans are necessary from Limbacher Straße to Zwickauer Straße. On Franz-Mehring-Straße, all right-before-left regulations will be replaced by priority signs at the junctions. The traffic lights on the diversion route will be adapted to the changed traffic relations or replaced by mobile systems.

CVAG buses will also run on this route. Replacement bus stops will be set up by 18 July and will be in operation from 21 July.

Information for residents will be distributed by the companies. Access to properties can be guaranteed after consultation with the companies on site. If disabled parking spaces are affected, they will be relocated as close as possible.

Pedestrian traffic and access to the houses will always be guaranteed.

Stopping bans will apply along the construction sites during the entire construction period.

Completed construction sections will be reopened to traffic as quickly as possible.

The construction measure is being implemented now, as Barbarossastrasse is intended as an alternative and relief route for the construction measures for Chemnitz Model Stage 4 from 2026.
