Children's conference on the topic of children's rights

Invitation for journalists: on 22 September, 1 to 3 pm, City Hall, Markt 1

This year's children's conference will take place on Monday, 22 September from 1 to 3 p.m. in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall under the motto "Children's rights - do you know yours?". All Chemnitz primary and special schools and after-school care centres have been invited to attend. The event, organised by the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, Dina Norberger, is fully booked.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend.

The children's conference will be opened and moderated by children. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze welcomes the young guests and answers all the questions they have always wanted to ask a Lord Mayor in an open round.

Children's rights are at the centre of the children's conference. The aim is to teach the children in a playful and child-orientated way what rights they are entitled to and to give them the opportunity to ask their own questions and get actively involved. In particular, the right to health, the right to play and leisure and the right to education are covered. A total of six different workshops will be offered, which have been prepared and implemented by experienced workshop leaders.

Dina Norberger, Children and Youth Officer for the City of Chemnitz: "I would like to thank everyone involved for their great support during the planning phase. With the children's conference, we are setting an example for the early participation of children and showing that their opinions and ideas are taken seriously."

At the end of the children's conference at around 3 p.m., the choir from Gebrüder Grimm Primary School will perform the song "Glück auf, Chemnitz", which was written and composed to mark Chemnitz 2025 as European Capital of Culture. Afterwards, the young singers will sign the Capital of Culture book in the Green Salon of the town hall.
