Choir from the Gebrüder Grimm primary school signs the Capital of Culture Book

Invitation for journalists: on 22 September, 3.15 pm, Grüner Salon, City Hall, Markt 1

On Monday, 22 September at 3.15 pm, the children of the Gebrüder-Grimm-Grundschule choir will sign the City of Chemnitz's Capital of Culture Book in the Green Salon of City Hall. The occasion is the song "Glück auf, Chemnitz", which was written and composed to mark the year of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025.

Representatives of the media are invited to attend.

Beforehand, at 3 p.m., the choir will perform the song at the end of this year's children's conference in the City Council Chamber, which is organised by the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Representative, Dina Norberger. Representatives of the media are also invited to this performance.

Background

The school choir rehearses once a week during term time and works towards at least three musical highlights every school year. In keeping with the European idea of the European Capital of Culture, the programme should also pick up on this theme. However, as there was a lack of songs and poems, the choir decided to create a song about the European Capital of Culture themselves. It was written by Sylvia Kirchhoff, a former teacher at the Gebrüder Grimm primary school. The melody was then composed by head teacher Alexander Schulze.

As the catchy melody and the lyrics, which are directly related to the children's environment, generated a lot of enthusiasm and the children really enjoyed the rehearsals, choirmaster Anja Grindemann and the headmaster decided to make a recording of the song with the children. Both of them will also sign the Capital of Culture book.
