At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council bid farewell to Michael Stötzer as Mayor for Urban Development and Construction. Stötzer is leaving the city of Chemnitz at his own request - after a total of 18 years in the city administration, including ten years at the head of Department 6.
During this time, five new schools were built and 52 expanded or renovated, including the Terra Nova Campus and the Am Hartmannplatz secondary school. In addition, six new day care centres were built and 31 were renovated. In addition, eight new and 19 modernised sports halls were built. In addition, more than 20 bridges such as Zschopauer Straße and the viaduct in Rabenstein were renovated or newly built. New developments include the Bernsdorf swimming complex and the long-distance bus terminal. The city of Chemnitz also has 30 intervention sites. In the urban development project for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, buildings and areas have been remodelled, upgraded or completely rebuilt in recent years - such as the district park at Pleißenbach, the market fountain, the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff ensemble, the Marathon Tower in the Sportforum or the pavilion in Küchwald.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "Michael Stötzer has changed Chemnitz for good, his work has shaped the city. With commitment, perseverance and passion, he turned ideas into concrete projects - and plans into visible reality. He was always reliable, constructive, collegial and never lost touch with the citizens."
Prior to this, Thomas Kütter was officially appointed as the new Head of Department 6. Kütter, who had been Head of Building Management and Structural Engineering at the City of Chemnitz since July 2022, was elected to the office of Mayor for Urban Development and Construction by the Chemnitz City Council in June for a seven-year term.
