Funding for barrier-free construction available for 2026

Applications for the investment programme can be submitted until 31 October

In the coming year, funds from the "Barrier-free building - favourite places for everyone" investment programme will once again be available to remove existing barriers. The Free State of Saxony is making funds totalling 285,500 euros available to the city of Chemnitz for 2026. Applications will be accepted by the Social Welfare Office until 31 October 2025.

Using every restaurant, going to the cinema or theatre without restrictions, visiting a museum or actively participating in sports in a club is not possible for everyone. Many of the facilities are not accessible to wheelchair users and people with walking difficulties, and cannot be fully utilised by people with hearing and visual impairments or learning difficulties.

With this in mind, the Free State of Saxony launched the investment programme to remove barriers for people for the first time in 2014 under the motto "Favourite places for everyone". It is intended to make access easier for people with disabilities and turn the places mentioned as examples into their favourite places. It is based on the guidelines of the Saxon State Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Cohesion for the investment promotion of facilities, services and offers for people with disabilities (FRL Investitionen Teilhabe).

The funding can be effective in many areas of public life such as culture, leisure, education, but also in the healthcare sector such as doctors' surgeries, psychotherapies or pharmacies. In addition to charitable initiatives, clubs and associations, tradespeople are also eligible.

The funding programme provides for a cost reimbursement of up to 100 percent if the project does not cost more than 25,000 euros. 25 per cent of the total funding amount is to be awarded for measures to create accessibility in existing outpatient medical and dental practices. No own funds are required.

The form "Barrier-free building investment programme - favourite places for everyone" is available at www.chemnitz.de/lieblingsplaetze.

The "Favourite places for all" investment programme is co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament.
