Malou Berlin has been dealing with the topics of foster families and adoption since her youth. In "Was bleibt", she tells a clever, perspective-rich and tragicomic family story about a foster child diagnosed with FASD, a brain damage caused by maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

Afterwards, Caritas employee Monika Seidel from the foster parent recruitment centre will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.

There will be a reading session for children parallel to the event.

Malou Berlin has published two novels and numerous short stories. Her film work has won her the Diversity Award of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and nominations for the Grimme Prize and the Prix Europa. Malou Berlin lives in East Brandenburg.

The book
Jason is three years old when he is abandoned by his young mother. He finds a loving home with foster parents Alex and Sonja in Eisenhüttenstadt. However, the happiness with the charming boy is also subject to strains - and the diagnosis of FASD, caused by alcohol consumption during pregnancy, hits like a blow. But Sonja and Alex refuse to give up, while Jason searches for his biological parents on his own initiative ...

A special child, an overwhelmed mother, a couple with an unfulfilled desire to have children and various social workers: They take turns telling their story over a period of 15 years.
