Today, 23 December at 8 pm, this year's Chemnitz Christmas Market traditionally ends one day before Christmas Eve.
In the 26 days that the Chemnitz Christmas market was open, it attracted well over 420,000 visitors. The market was very well attended throughout this year, even despite the mild, double-digit temperatures at times.
The end of the Capital of Culture year also contributed to a certain extent to the number of visitors. Surveys conducted by the market management among participating traders confirm this.
Special features of the Christmas market
By the end of the Christmas market, around 470,000 cups will have been washed in the dishwashing station. Added to this are the other crockery items that have not yet been counted (plates, soup bowls, etc.).
Visitors were entertained by 48 different artists, choirs and children's groups on stage. Father Christmas also handed out sweets every day at 5pm and brought one particularly brave child on stage with him.
Ten different kindergarten groups helped to decorate the many Christmas trees, especially in front of the stage and in the Neumarkt area.
Six "lost" children were reunited with their parents. The market management's sensitivity was often required during the short childcare period.
Once again this year, many lost property items were handed in to the market management. These included Jackets, shoes, bags with purchases, purses, individual ID cards (including international ones), monthly tickets for local transport, health cards and car keys. Many of the items were returned directly to their owners at the store management office, while the rest were handed in at the lost property office in the Am Wall community centre (Webergasse entrance) or passed on by the store management.
The market management was on duty with seven employees in rotation during the Christmas market.
