It is now possible to register your place of residence electronically in the city of Chemnitz. This allows people who are in possession of a German ID card with the eID function switched on and EU citizens who are in possession of an eID card to register or re-register their place of residence via their smartphone using the ID card app when moving within the city or when moving from another German municipality. Online registration can be used for individuals or families.
Citizens can use it to register anywhere and at any time, without having to go to the registration office.
All the necessary procedural steps from registration, uploading the landlord's confirmation of residence and changing the address in the chip of the ID card to sending the address label are mapped in this process.
The service can be accessed at www.chemnitz.de/wohnsitzanmeldung or directly via www.amt24.sachsen.de.
Electronic residence registration is currently being introduced throughout Germany. In recent weeks and months, numerous cities and municipalities in the Free State of Saxony have also been integrated into this system.
