Christmas pyramid
The 12 metre high Christmas pyramid has been turning at the Chemnitz Christmas market during Advent since 1986.
On five floors, 24 figures depict everyday life in the Ore Mountains. Particularly typical are the lumberjack, the hunter, the little horseman, the carol singers and the miners.
The pyramid was created by the wood carving circle of the SDAG Wismut geological plant and the carving circle of the VEB Großdrehmaschinenwerk 8 May Karl-Marx-Stadt under the leadership of Mr Roland Nestler.
The body was faithfully replaced in 2016 and the figures in 2001. The surviving original figures can be viewed in the foyer of the town hall during Advent.
Candle arch
The 5 x 2 metrecandle arch created by artisan Claus Döhler from Sosa shows craftsmen from the Ore Mountains with a motif that is particularly typical of the region: lace makers and carvers.
The candle arch is located on the street "Am Rathaus" and is a kind of entrance to the Chemnitz Christmas market. To the left and right of the candle arch are angels and miners, which are a favourite photo motif for Christmas market visitors.
Traditional Erzgebirge figurines
The series oftraditional Erzgebirge figurescontinues with a larger-than-life nutcracker and a snowman. The 1.80 metre tall miner and angel are further highlights at the Chemnitz Christmas market. These were created by the Erzgebirgische Holzkunst Gahlenz GmbH RuT.
Music box
The music box, whose turntable has a considerable diameter of 4.40 metres, is well-known. Themusic box depicts the giving of presents in a Christmas parlour. Father Christmas with a sleigh full of presents and the children with presents make their rounds around the festively decorated Christmas tree. The music box also comes from the traditional craft of Erzgebirgische Holzkunst Gahlenz GmbH RuT. The musical mechanism plays Christmas tunes every half hour.
