At its meeting yesterday, the city council elected Franziska Loose as the new head of the Youth Welfare Office. The 42-year-old succeeds Gunda Georgi, who is retiring.

Franziska Loose lives in Chemnitz and has worked in the Department of Social Affairs, Youth, Health, Culture and Sport of the City of Chemnitz for the past three years. From 2019 to 2023, she worked for the city of Freiberg as Head of the Department of Education, Youth and Social Affairs. The sociology graduate is expected to start her new position as head of the office on 1 November 2026.

In addition to child and youth support, assistance for children, young people and families and day-care centres, the Youth Welfare Office is also responsible for youth welfare planning, guardianship and advance maintenance payments.
