The construction of the Chemnitz model in the city centre continues: VMS and partners invite you to another information evening on the topic.

  • When: 28 May 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Where: Foyer of Chemnitz City Hall.
  • What: Explanation of the construction process in Chemnitz city centre until the end of 2027.

Falkeplatz

Construction of the Chemnitz model (stage 4 Chemnitz <> Limbach-Oberfrohna railway line) is entering the main phase. Workers are beginning to demolish the two old partial bridges at Falkeplatz (side towards Theaterstraße). Their new construction will last until the end of 2027. Until then, traffic (cars, public transport) will flow over a permanent bridge.

By now, construction experts have laid the construction track for trams on lines 1 and 4 in preparation for construction; it is due to go into operation at the beginning of July 2026. In addition, the temporary bridge over the Chemnitz (pedestrians, cyclists + district heating, water, cables) is expected to be opened by the end of May.

Mühlenstraße/corner of Brückenstraße

The construction site will be completed at the end of July 2026 and traffic will be able to flow again between Brückenstraße and Mühlenstraße.

Workers have removed the old asphalt surface and replaced the underground utilities and wastewater pipes. The new road surface will be applied in the coming days.

Gleisdreieck (Theaterstraße from Mühlenstraße/Brückenstraße to Hartmannstraße)

This construction site is due to start at the end of July 2026. Workers are laying the new tracks there. Construction is scheduled to last until the end of 2026. During this time, it will not be possible to turn from Hartmannstraße towards Theaterstraße/ Brückenstraße (and vice versa) for the most part. It will be possible to turn from Hartmannstraße in the direction of Theaterstraße/ Falkeplatz (and vice versa). Access to the Roter Turm underground car park is guaranteed from the direction of Hartmannstraße.

Outlook from 2027: When the Gleisdreieck construction site is completed, the Hartmannstraße to Kaßbergauffahrt section will follow.
