Once again, the city of Chemnitz is calling on young people in Chemnitz to actively participate in the design of their urban environment. Under the motto "Take a seat - young people shape the city", creative projects that turn previously unused areas into new feel-good places for young people will be supported again this year.</p

All Chemnitz residents between the ages of 14 and 27 can take part. They can photograph a potential location, present their idea in the form of a sketch or in the form of a short video. The project application can be submitted directly online at www.chemnitz.de/nimmplatz by 30 August 2026. Alternatively, the documents can also be sent to Katrin Günther, Coordinator for Child and Youth Participation at the City of Chemnitz, by email to katrin.guenther@stadt-chemnitz.de. She can also be reached by telephone on 0371 488 1518.

We are looking for suggestions on how young people can transform small squares, vacant lots or brownfield sites into lively meeting places. Whether urban gardening, sports facilities, play and recreation areas, places for art, music or theatre - there are virtually no limits to creativity. The aim is to develop projects that bring people together and strengthen togetherness in the neighbourhoods.</p

The idea behind the project: communities create places - and places create community. Because in the youth surveys and youth conferences, the city of Chemnitz has recognised a clear desire from young people: more places to meet, exchange ideas and be active together.

<p

A jury will select the most convincing proposals. The selected projects are to be realised in 2026 with the support of the City of Chemnitz. The prerequisite is that the young people of Chemnitz are actively involved in the realisation.</p

A budget of 2,026 euros is available for each selected project. The sum is intended to promote personal initiative and at the same time enable joint projects that bring together different ideas and talents.

With the "Nimm Platz - Jugend gestaltet Stadt" project, the city of Chemnitz wants to give young people the opportunity to actively help shape their city and create new places for encounters, creativity and community.
