The Heimatverein Chemnitz-Reichenhain e.V. was founded in 2005 in the Gasthof Reichenhain. Just one year later, it had 80 members, which is an expression of the association's diverse activities in the town. There are now 130 members in total.
The local history association works closely with the school, kindergarten, sports club and church and they jointly organise district festivals, such as the 70th anniversary of the school in 2020 and the 675th anniversary of the village of Reichenhain in 2021.
The construction of the playground on the grounds of the sports club required a great deal of effort in 2019. Many volunteers helped to realise this project and, thanks to funding from the "Take a seat" campaign for the Capital of Culture application, the playground will also receive a covered seating area in 2020.
