Safety measures in the Ebersdorf forest and border forest
The City of Chemnitz has issued a general order regulating access to certain areas of the Ebersdorfer Wald forest, the Grenzwald forest and the ruined areas to the south. The exact area of application is marked on the attached site plans (Annex 1 and 2).
Important regulations:
- It is prohibited to enter areas outside marked or designated roads or paths.
- The ban does not apply to emergency services (e.g. police, fire brigade, rescue service), property owners and their authorised representatives.
- Dogs must be kept on a lead in the area of application without exception.
- The City of Chemnitz can approve exceptions on request, provided there are no hazards to the contrary.
The general decree will be published on 22 May 2026 in an electronic official gazette and on www.chemnitz.de.
Background
In recent weeks, glass containers with chemicals have been found in the affected area. To minimise potential risks, these areas have been closed as a precautionary measure. The measure serves to protect the population, as the presence of similar objects in uninvestigated areas of the designated area cannot be ruled out.</p
