This year's tower brass season starts on Saturday 26 April at 9.30 am.
The trombone choirs of the parishes from Chemnitz and the surrounding area will once again play every Saturday on the balcony of the High Tower of the town hall. You can hear tower music from the time of Gottfried Reiche, chorales by Johann Sebastian Bach and modern pieces by Traugott Fünfgeld. Each performance lasts about half an hour.

Background:
The tradition of tower blowing was revitalised by long-time Chemnitz tower warden Stefan Weber († 2015). It dates back to the 1980s.
Originally, however, it dates back to the 15th century. At that time, it was the task of the towers to play musical pieces from the High Tower, which is part of the Old Town Hall and St Jakobi town church.
This tradition experienced various ups and downs over the centuries, including interruptions during wars and fires. From 1932, the tradition was revived by a district trombone choir, which still exists today. After the Second World War, the tower was partially rebuilt and tower blowing was able to continue.
Today, brass players from 15 parishes regularly play on the High Tower and maintain this 500-year-old tradition.
