Traffic safety and timber harvesting begin in the municipal forest
Purchase of firewood licences 2025/2026 possible from the district forester
From now on, road safety and timber harvesting work must be expected in the municipal forest. The City of Chemnitz's Parks Department has drawn attention to this.
As many old beech, ash and other deciduous tree species have poor crown conditions and a high proportion of deadwood or are dying completely, traffic safety measures will be necessary from October, especially at the edges of the forest, some of which will be carried out by specialised tree care companies. This mainly affects the waterworks park, the Glösa forest, the Crimmitschau forest, the Fischzuchtgrund, the edge of the forest at the Riedteich and the Hohlweg.
From November, forest maintenance and logging will begin in the communal forest. Now that the bark beetle infestation has decreased significantly this year due to favourable weather conditions, more attention can be paid to the maintenance and thinning of fast-growing hardwood stands. Depending on the weather conditions, this will take place in the Heilstättenwald, Crimmitschauer Wald, Zeisigwald, Tiergarten, Mühlberg in Einsiedel and Hang am Angerbach in Ortelsdorf.
The majority of the felling will again be carried out by Saxon forestry companies, which are bound by contract and instructed by the municipal district manager, mainly by machine.
Attention - danger to life
During the work, the respective forest areas and forest paths are closed! There is a danger to life! All forest visitors should bear in mind that forest areas and forest paths are temporarily closed to passers-by for safety reasons for the duration of the felling and timber processing (based on the Saxon Forest Act, Section 11 (3)). The barriers must be observed and may not be altered. Log piles may not be stepped on or climbed on either. Logs could start rolling and cause serious accidents. Children should be specially instructed about this.
The raw timber is processed into various assortments and temporarily stored on forest roads accessible to lorries. This can cause damage to the forest roads. Once the timber has been removed, the roads are repaired. This depends on the weather and experience has shown that it will take around five months to complete.
