On 30 September 2022, the first network meeting of the city's "Colourful Rooftops" project took place at lofty heights. Since 2021, Chemnitz has been part of the European Creative Rooftop Network, an initiative comprising a total of nine cities that pursue the common goal of developing sustainable and innovative rooftop projects.

Rooftop enthusiasts, stakeholders and city representatives came together for the first time on the roof of Salute e.V. near the Brühl to discuss the potential and possibilities of future rooftop uses in Chemnitz.

In addition to the presentation of the European Creative Rooftop Network (ECRN), the participants were given an insight into the Artist in Residence programme, which enables artist residencies within the partner cities as part of ECRN. Textile and surface designer Henrike Schmitz and painter Peter Piek reported on their artistic work on the rooftops of Antwerp and Faro.

In addition, Alexander van der Meer and Remco Moen Marcar from ROEF, experienced designers of the Amsterdam roof landscape, presented their projects from the last seven years.

Sabine Fekete introduced herself to the guests at the event as the new project coordinator and contact person. Her aim is to record and network the previously unused urban space in Chemnitz and to match the needs of potential stakeholders with the conditions of the roofs and owners in order to open up this space for a variety of uses in the future.
