Cities are constantly changing - and with them the requirements for vibrant neighbourhoods and good coexistence.

On 9 May, the Day of Urban Development will once again take place nationwide, on which projects, successes and perspectives of urban development will be presented.

In Chemnitz, the Urban Planning and Property Office is also inviting visitors to learn about subsidised projects on site and gain insights into current developments.</p

Background

The Day of Urban Development has been celebrated nationwide since 2015 to strengthen citizen participation in urban development and to make the successes of urban development funding visible.

Open door in the city economy

The Stadtwirtschaft am Sonnenberg, Jakobstraße 46/Schüffnerstraße 1 invites you from 2 to 4 pm. As a maker hub (a place for creative makers), it provides insights into its development and current use.</p

<p>The structural implementation and activation was realised with urban development funding from the federal government, the Free State of Saxony, the City of Chemnitz and European funding.

Visitors can expect a varied programme: open workshops, studios and hands-on activities invite you to discover - including the Fab Lab of the Stadtfabrikanten, the Zeux materials initiative, the new BrauBox brewery, the MINT initiative of the Industrieverein and the Pfauch chocolate factory. It is also possible to talk to local stakeholders in person.

The City Planning and Property Office will also provide information about current projects such as the Sonnenberger Promenade and the expansion of the district heating network on Sonnenberg. 

Guided tours take place at 2 and 3 pm. The meeting point is the foyer of the Stadtwirtschaft at the entrance to Jakobstraße 46.</p

Straße der Nationen 43 - A monument opens its doors

The listed building at Straße der Nationen 43 is one of the few surviving early Gründerzeit residential buildings in Chemnitz. Built around 1864, it is an important testimony to the city's history.

In order to preserve the monument, extensive safety measures have already been implemented. The building is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment - supported by urban development funding.

The owners open the building to interested visitors from 12 noon to 4 pm. Guided tours provide insights into the history, current condition and further plans.</p

Discover the Pleißenbach green corridor

Bei einer Führung am Tag der Städtebauförderung können Interessierte den Grünzug Pleißenbach erkunden.

At 10 a.m., the city of Chemnitz invites you to a guided tour of the Pleißenbach green corridor. The meeting point is the new viaduct over the Pleißenbach at Limbacher Straße.

The newly created park on the site of the former Altendorf goods station is an intervention area of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. It combines a near-natural water development with new recreational and exercise areas. Its implementation is supported by urban development funding and other funding programmes.

During the tour, the City Planning and Property Office, together with the planning office C23, will provide information on the development of the site from an industrial wasteland to a versatile green space. An outlook on further plans will also be given.
