Long-distance bus terminal opens

The long-distance coach terminal on Dresdner Straße has been in operation since January. In the early hours of 15 January, the first long-distance bus, a Flixbus from Prague on its way to Amsterdam, arrived at the terminal at 1.15 am. On the opening day, a total of 18 long-distance coaches travelled to the terminal. The long-distance bus terminal was built to efficiently link public long-distance, regional and local transport at the main railway station. The facility complements the future central bus station, which is to be built on the main station forecourt after 2025. The transport systems will be connected via a new pedestrian tunnel with access from the main railway station. The terminal has four bus platforms, which have been constructed as angled bus stop islands. Directly adjacent, 33 car parking spaces have been created, including two disabled parking spaces, four taxi parking spaces, two charging spaces for electric vehicles, a car-sharing parking space specifically for shared vehicles and three Kiss+Ride parking spaces. In addition, twelve bicycle boxes with charging facilities for e-bikes have been installed, supplemented by 48 further bicycle parking spaces.

Budget 2025/2026

In March, the City Council passed far-reaching resolutions for the finances of the City of Chemnitz. In addition to a medium-term consolidation package, the city council members approved the budget for this year and the coming year. The state authorities approved these budgets in mid-June.

Fossil of the year

The fossil of the year 2025 comes from Chemnitz: The Palaeontological Society has chosen the fossil shark egg capsule "Fayolia sterzeliana" from the Lower Carboniferous of Chemnitz-Borna and Chemnitz-Glösa as the fossil of the year. The shark eggs, which come from two different species of freshwater sharks, are the oldest finds of this type.
