July to September
Review of the year 2025
Town hall guide for children
A new town hall guide for children has been available since June. The 36-page Town Hall Guide for Children takes young people in Chemnitz on a journey of discovery through the Town Hall. Together with the town hall mouse and the lion, who represents the Lord Mayor in the animal world, children and young people find out what the town hall looks like from the inside, why so many of the figures in the pictures in the lobby are naked, the story behind the bell in the High Tower and how the city council, its committees and the city administration work. It also presents opportunities for children to participate in democratic decision-making. The booklet is supplemented by puzzles, colouring and error search pictures. The town hall guide is distributed to children during guided tours.
Record year for city cycling
This year's city cycling event in Chemnitz has ended with new records. From 1 to 21 September, active cyclists were called upon to cover distances by bike. The final results were: 3,649 active cyclists took part in 2025 209 teams cycled a total of 705,741 kilometres, saving 116 tonnes of CO2 compared to driving a car For the first time, the "most bike-active school" category was divided into four sub-categories to make the results more comparable and fairer.
Peace banner world record
Between June and August, a total of 250 Chemnitz peace banners were hung in and around the secondary school on Hartmannplatz. With a total area of 2,100 square metres, this was the largest exhibition Chemnitz has ever seen. For 15 years, the citizens' initiative Aktion ©, led by Gerald Richter, has been organising workshops in schools where children and young people put their messages of peace on the seven-metre-long banners, which are then displayed on Chemnitz's Peace Day on 5 March, including on the town hall. In 2025 alone, five banner design workshops were held again. This resulted in 20 new banners, so that new banners can once again be hung on the town hall for Chemnitz Peace Day 2026.
In July, the mayors Knut Kunze and Michael Stötzer conveyed the congratulations of the city of Chemnitz to the Chemnitz hut in the southern Zillertal Alps/South Tyrol (Italy) at an altitude of 2,419 metres on the occasion of its 130th anniversary. After a hike of several hours to the hut, they took part in the alpinists' birthday celebrations. They brought a Christmas angel with a cogwheel and a miniature of the Karl Marx monument as a gift to the family that runs the hut, led by hut manager Roland Gruber. The first simple mountain hut was built in 1880 by the Taufers (South Tyrol) section of the Alpine Club. In 1894, the hut was handed over to the Chemnitz section of the DAV, which then built a new one - the inauguration took place on 27 July 1895.
