At its meeting today, the city council approved a package of measures to reduce the costs of local public transport. The changes will be implemented with the timetable change in December 2026 and included in the update of the local transport plan, which is currently being prepared.
The background to this is the significant rise in public transport costs, including for personnel, energy, fuel and vehicles. The planned measures primarily affect times and routes with lower demand. The core network at peak times will remain in its current quality.
The changes decided upon include the expansion of night-time services, the extension of the summer holiday timetable (Monday to Saturday), reduced frequencies at individual off-peak times and the reduction of the frequency to Euba to every 60 minutes, although school transport will continue to be reliably covered.
Individual journeys on several bus routes in the early morning and late evening hours will also be reduced, while an expansion of the ALiTa service (Anruf-Linien-Taxi) will cover any gaps that arise in line with demand. Line 73 is to be cancelled as soon as barrier-free access to the TU Reichenhainer Straße campus is guaranteed from the Chemnitz-Reichenhain stop on lines C13 and C14.
The aim of the measures is to minimise the impact on passengers and at the same time ensure a reliable local transport service in Chemnitz.
