Civil protection: Sirens

Hörmann-Sirene (Symbolbild)

In Chemnitz, 47 sirens are currently installed at various locations throughout the city.

43 of these can send both signalling tones and voice announcements (electronic sirens). These have mainly been installed along the watercourses of Würschnitz, Zwönitz, Chemnitz, Pleißenbach and Kappelbach, with more to be added gradually throughout the city.

The siren signals are standardised in Saxony.

Every 1st Saturday of the month, there is a test alarm at 11 a.m. to check the functionality of the sirens.

Two new sirens were added at the end of 2025:

  • Eleven-storey Wolgograder Allee 31, 09123 Chemnitz
  • Röhrsdorf primary school, Beethovenweg 44 (conversion from motorised siren to electronic siren)
