Civil protection: Civil protection
According to Section 3 of the Saxon Fire Protection, Rescue Service and Disaster Control Act , disaster control is part of general hazard prevention. In principle, it is the responsibility of the federal states. The districts and independent cities are responsible for local citizens. As the so-called lower disaster control authorities, they are responsible for protection in the event of major accidents or disasters such as flooding, storms, explosive ordnance etc.
As the lower disaster control authority, the City of Chemnitz fulfils all necessary tasks and is obliged to cooperate in disaster control.
This includes, for example, fire protection, the warning service, flood protection, the medical service and the support service.
Those involved in disaster control include Chemnitz City Council itself, the Chemnitz Fire Brigade with its control units and its 15 volunteer fire brigades, the German Red Cross and the Chemnitz Workers' Samaritan Federation.
City-owned companies such as CVAG and ASR are also involved. The Chemnitz/ Erzgebirge Rescue Association works closely with the emergency services.
In addition, support can be requested from the Federal Agency for Technical Relief if necessary.
