Laying of Stumbling Stones on 18 and 19 October 2011

15 Stumbling Stones were laid at ten locations in Chemnitz on 18 and 19 October 2011:

Horststraße 10a

Stolperstein für Max Schindler

Max Schindler (born 1880), was arrested by the National Socialists during the November pogrom of 1938 and taken into so-called "protective custody"; he died on 2 December 1938 in Buchenwald concentration camp

Eulitzstraße 15, historical (today: footpath Eulitzstraße 7-17)

Stolpersteine für Familie Pfifferling

The Pfifferling family, Karl Pfifferling and his wife Elsa Pfifferling, née Friedrich (both born in 1890): both were deported in May 1942 and murdered in the Belzyce ghetto near Lublin
Son Edgar Pfifferling (born 1917): was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1943 and murdered there. Two daughters were able to emigrate from Germany in 1939.

Germaniastraße 4, historical (today: Rudolf-Breitscheidstraße/corner of Kanzlerstraße)

Stolperstein für Erich Kohnke

Kapellmeister Erich Kohnke (born 1900): He fled persecution by the National Socialists to Holland in 1938, was interned in the so-called transit camp (concentration camp collection camp) Westerbork, deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp in 1943 and murdered there on 23 September 1943.

Antonplatz 15 (today: Käthe-Kollwitz-Str./footpath towards Brückenstr.)

The Jewish old people's home was located on Antonplatz from 1940 to 1943. The stone commemorates the commercial representative Hermann Rosenthal, born in 1879, who was deported to the Belzyce ghetto in May 1942 and murdered there.

Brauhausstraße 1, historical (today: footpath Brauhausstraße/Moritzstraße)

Stolpersteine Familie Hartmann

Elsa Hartmann (born in 1885), Grete Hartmann (born in 1883) and Nani Hartmann (born in 1879): The sisters were deported in May 1942 and murdered in the Belzyce ghetto. A Stumbling Stone was laid for their brother Hans Hartmann, who was murdered in the Dachau concentration camp in February 1941, in June 2010

Stolperstein für Hirsch Leib Elstein

Hirsch Leib Elstein (born in 1889): He fled persecution by the National Socialists to Belgium in 1939, was interned in Mechelen, deported in 1942 and murdered in the Auschwitz extermination camp on 30 September 1942.

Senefelder Street 12

Stolperstein für Israel Miller

Israel Miller (born in 1886): He was arrested in 1936 for so-called racial defilement and sent to Waldheim prison. After his release, he was expelled from the country in 1939 and murdered in Lublin in 1942.

Kreherstrasse 75

Stolperstein Albert Hähnel

Albert Hähnel (born 1903): The anti-fascist resistance fighter was arrested several times by the National Socialists, most recently in 1944 by the Gestapo in Chemnitz and shot in Neukirchen on 27 March 1945.

Hofer street 4

Elisabeth Voigt (born in 1887): Due to her illness, Elisabeth Voigt was admitted to the Zschadrass sanatorium and nursing home in 1929. From there, she was taken to one of the Nazi killing centres, Pirna-Sonnenstein, on 15 August 1940 and murdered there on the same day as part of "Aktion T4".

Fürstenstraße 12

Moritz Zudkowitz (born in 1891) and his wife Masza Zudkowitz, née Malinski (born in 1897): The couple, who had Polish citizenship, were deported to Poland at the end of October 1938 during a nationwide action and murdered in the Chelmno (Kulmhof) extermination camp in 1942.
