Better orientation for passengers
The central station is used as a hub by all tram and city railway lines and a large number of bus routes and serves around 30,000 passengers per day. It covers an area of around 20,000 square metres between Bahnhofstrasse, Reitbahnstrasse and Rathausstrasse. In order to reach the Steige, some of these streets have to be crossed by passengers.
The new wayfinding system divides the central stop into four coloured sections to provide passengers with an initial rough orientation. The colours are visible from a distance, making the platforms easier to see from all directions. On the platform itself, the route relationships to all other platforms are shown to provide the best possible orientation at all points of the central stop.
In addition to the implementation of the new colour concept, three information pillars complete the new wayfinding system. These are located in the areas of trails 1, 5 and 9 and feature an overview map and signposting for the individual trails. It is supplemented by two digital information pillars at platforms 5 and 9, which primarily display the departures of the entire central station. For better orientation for people with visual impairments, the platform numbering has been placed above the buttons for the voice output of the digital information displays in pyramid font.
With the introduction of the wayfinding system, CVAG responded to customer feedback indicating a desire for better orientation, especially when departures changed.
The implementation of this measure is co-financed by tax funds in accordance with the Municipal Transport Financing Act (GVFG) on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon state parliament.</p
