On Wednesday, 13 May at 6 p.m., interested parties are invited to a vernissage on the subject of plants and fibres in an artistic context in the main building of the Botanical Garden, Leipziger Straße 147. The Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, specialising in textile art/textile design, and the Chemnitz Botanical Garden are jointly presenting student works based on the artistic-research examination of fibre plants.
The director of the Chemnitz Botanical Garden, Dr Sten Gillner, will welcome the guests and explain the cooperation between the two institutions. Prof. Louise Walleneit, Professor of Textile Arts, Public Art and Art in Architecture, will present the exhibits and provide insights into the methods used by the students to create their works.

Representatives of the media are also invited.

The source materials come from the cultivation of fibre plants by trainee gardeners from the City of Chemnitz's Parks and Gardens Department. A wide range of fibre plants were used - from ordinary cotton and various types of hibiscus to sisal agave and sugar cane. The exhibition shows the path from cultivated raw material to artistic applications and the results of the co-operation between the Chemnitz Botanical Garden and the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg. The project was based on the commitment and cooperation of young designers and gardeners.

The exhibition can be seen until 30 September in the inner courtyard of the main building daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Admission is free of charge.
