The system, which was installed in February and March of this year, cost around 59,000 euros, of which the city of Chemnitz paid around 53,000 euros. The remaining share was borne by the club.
The club VfB Fortuna Chemnitz e. V. had reported several breakdowns of the old floodlight system last year, meaning that some matches had to be cancelled at short notice. The new system, which is now equipped with LED instead of halogen floodlights, is necessary in order to maintain training and match operations.
The football pitch at Beyerstrasse 44 is a municipal sports ground owned by the City of Chemnitz and is available for use by VfB Fortuna e. V. as part of a licence agreement.
