Outpatient Surgery Centre successfully launched

A few weeks after the opening of Praxiswelt, Poliklinik gGmbH Chemnitz has given a positive initial assessment of its new Outpatient Surgical Centre (AOZ): during the first operation on 29 June, a tumour was removed from a patient’s eye.

Since then, numerous outpatient procedures have already been carried out. Currently, the departments of ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat medicine, urology and hand surgery are making use of the new facilities. Further specialist departments are set to be added in the future.

The AOZ complements the outpatient care services offered by Praxiswelt and provides a modern setting for surgical procedures. It is located on the 6th floor of Praxiswelt. The direct link to the specialist medical departments ensures short distances and facilitates close collaboration between all those involved. This allows diagnostics, treatment, surgery and aftercare to be closely co-ordinated.

“For many patients, the new Outpatient Surgical Centre means receiving treatment in a familiar environment. The close links to the specialist departments ensure short distances and coordinated processes. This creates the ideal conditions for high-quality outpatient care,” says Dr Patrick Straßburger, who performed the first operation at the AOZ.

The Outpatient Surgical Centre covers around 650 square metres and has three operating theatres suitable for interdisciplinary use. The facilities are complemented by five patient transfer bays based on the Carrier principle, a central monitoring station, a central sterile and consumables store, and modern recovery areas. For post-operative care, there is a recovery room with six beds and a recovery area with ten beds, including a separate children’s area. A waiting area for relatives completes the facilities. Paediatric surgical and proctological procedures can still be carried out in the procedure rooms at the Surgical Practice Centre on the 4th floor. Outpatient procedures are carried out from Monday to Friday.

The Johanniskarree Medical Centre brings together more than 16 specialist disciplines, modern diagnostics, therapy and outpatient surgery under one roof. The Outpatient Surgical Centre complements this care concept and expands the possibilities for multidisciplinary outpatient treatment in the centre of Chemnitz.
